The Government Flying Training School (GFTS) at Jakkur, Bangalore, was set up in 1950 and is one of the oldest flying schools in the country. The state-owned flying training school offers tenured programs leading to the issue of Commercial Pilot Licenses (CPL) and Private Pilot Licenses (PPL) for aspiring candidates. GFTS is spread over an area of 214 acres which includes facilities for flight training (“Training School”), an area leased to private parties for hangars and maintenance activities, and other common facilities (airstrip, fuel station, etc.).
